£12m Cardiff depot facility aims to speed up train repairs

A £12 million bogie drop has entered service at Transport for Wales’ Canton depot in Cardiff, the Welsh Government has announced.

The facility allows wheel and underframe equipment to be removed, repaired and replaced on site. The government says trains that previously needed to travel elsewhere for specialist work can therefore return to service faster.

Canton maintains trains serving communities across south Wales, and the government says the facility will be especially useful when autumn weather and leaves on the line increase maintenance demand.

Deputy Minister for Transport Mark Hooper said: “By maintaining more of our fleet locally and efficiently, we can get trains back into service faster and continue to improve reliability and punctuality for passengers across the region.”
