Fuel Finder expands live price data for drivers — but no app is endorsed
Government says Fuel Finder data is now appearing in several apps and websites, allowing motorists to compare nearby petrol-station prices in near real time.
UK Government says its Fuel Finder service is now supplying near-live petrol-station price data to a growing number of apps and websites. The scheme requires UK petrol stations to report their prices, with the stated aim of making it easier for motorists to compare nearby forecourts before setting out.
The government says examples including Confused.com, DriveScore, Fuel Finder UK, Fuel Spy, MotorMouth, PetrolPrices.com and RAC Fuel Watch are using the data. It does not recommend or endorse a single provider, and says drivers should choose the service that works for them.
What the scheme is intended to do
Fuel Finder was introduced at the start of 2026. The government says it could save car-owning households an average of around £40 a year by making local price differences more visible and increasing competition between retailers. That is a government estimate, not a guaranteed saving for an individual driver.
Other platforms were expected to add the data over subsequent weeks and months. The announcement also says motorists should continue filling up as normal: the service is an information tool, not a change to fuel availability or a direction on when to buy.
What this means for Wales
For Welsh drivers, particularly where a trip to another forecourt can mean extra mileage, the useful change is the ability to compare local pump prices before travelling. The practical value will depend on which services cover a driver’s area and how current the reported prices are; the government’s release does not promise that every app or station will appear immediately.
