New HGV registrations in Wales fell 9.9% in Q2, SMMT says
SMMT recorded 210 new trucks in Wales during the quarter as the UK market declined, while zero-emission uptake remained below 1%.
New heavy goods vehicle registrations in Wales fell 9.9% year-on-year to 210 in the second quarter of 2026, according to SMMT data.
The trade body said Wales recorded 460 registrations in the first half of the year, down 35.4% on the same period in 2025. Across the UK, quarterly registrations fell 14.7% to 8,687.
SMMT said 90 zero-emission HGVs were registered nationally in the quarter, giving them a 1.0% market share. It argues that costs, grid connections, depot planning and charging infrastructure remain barriers to uptake.
