RHA says Holyhead customs processes are planned to move into port from 2027

The Road Haulage Association says HM Revenue & Customs plans to wind down the Holyhead Inland Border Facility, with customs processes intended to move into infrastructure within Holyhead Port from early 2027.

The association says the temporary government-funded sites were introduced after Brexit while border locations developed capacity. It says the planned change would return the work to the standard UK border model, in which port authorities provide the infrastructure.

According to the RHA, detailed timetables for Holyhead are still being finalised. It says traders should continue using the facility as normal until further notice because there are no immediate changes to the existing customs process.

What this means for Wales

Holyhead is a key Welsh port for freight movements. Hauliers and other businesses using its inland customs facility will need to follow the final timetable and operational guidance when it is issued; the RHA says it is collecting member feedback for HMRC's transition planning.
